On 28th in the evening, dashi performance starts. Dashi are beautifully decorated wooden floats.
There are 22 dashi in Fuchu.
Hayashi is musical accompaniment for traditional Japanese dance.
Fuchu has two schools of hayashi:
1. Meguro (full of lively tone)
2. Funabashi (full of elegant tone)
Do you know traditional Japanese masks which appear on Dashi (Japanese wooden floats) while you can hear Hayashi (musical accompaniment for traditional Japanese dance)?
They are:
・Kitsune (fox)
・Shishi-mai (lion)
・Hyottoko is a silly, childlike figure with a comical expression on his face. His mouth is almost always rounded and skewed to one side.
・Okame, also known as otafuku, is like the female version of Hyottoko, and their masks usually appear together. She is portrayed as a woman with a large, oval-shaped head and smiling eyes.
